Sarah Brix from our close neighbor Canada is our special interview this month.
Sarah attended Seneca College studying performance, song writing and music production. With her music she reaches out to those who suffer from depression and anxiety. Brix herself has struggled with the void and now is a giver. Her genre is alternative pop. We will give you links to hear her music but now let’s find out about Sarah Brix.
Thank you for granting this interview. We can see this is not your first interview. Please tell us where you were born and where you live today.
Hey, thank you so much for reaching out! I’m excited to get this opportunity to share a bit about myself. I was born in a quaint little town called Elora, about an hour-and-a-half drive outside Toronto, Ontario. After living in Toronto for the past two years, and spending the summer out in Nova Scotia, I recently moved back to my hometown. I thought stepping away from the hustle and bustle of the city would give me a quiet space to focus on making my music (not to mention Toronto rent is way too expensive for a struggling artist!).
When did you start playing the guitar and what other instruments do you play?
I believe I was around 10 years old when I started playing guitar. My parents had bought my brother a guitar, but he realized pretty quickly that he wasn’t interested in it much. I ended up trying it out and fell in love with it. I started teaching myself, and years later I finally took some lessons. Before guitar, the first instrument I ever learned was piano. I took lessons for a few years when I was around 8, but once I found guitar, piano got put on the back burner a bit. Now, I play guitar, piano, ukulele, and I am trying to learn a little bit of bass (and I sing, of course!).
Who are some of your favourite artists?
My favourite artists seem to change all the time, but currently I’ve been listening to Noah Kahan, Jeremy Zucker, Julia Wolf, Jack Kays, and Canadian artist Cameron Whitcomb.
Tell us about the first songs you composed and the latest songs you’ve created.
I started writing songs when I was around 11 years old, and let’s just say they weren’t my finest works (they are hidden deep in the vault, never to be heard again). The first song that I ever actually released was my song “Fly” in February of 2024. This still might be my favourite song I’ve ever written, inspired by the poem “The View From Halfway Down” from the show Bojack Horseman. I wrote it when I was in an extremely low mental state, and for me it was probably the most healing writing experience I’ve ever had, with the whole song being written in less than an hour. The most recent song I released is called “24” and came out on my 24th birthday. It’s a reflective song about the emotions of turning 24. But that’s not the most recent song I’ve created… I’ve got a lot of new songs in the works that will all be revealed soon enough!

Share with us about your private studio where you work out and produce musical ideas.
Once I moved back into my parents’ home in Elora, they were kind enough to let me convert my dad’s office into my own home studio (thank you Dad!). When I interned at Orange Lounge Recording Studio in Toronto a few years ago, it became clear how important “vibe” is for a studio. So I hired my best friend’s house painting company (shout-out Better Together Painting), and we painted the walls all groovy to really set the vibe. I also bought a colour-changing LED light so I can really set the mood. As for the actual equipment, I now have a triple-monitor setup, with some Adam Audio monitors and a little self-made recording booth with a curtain and some sound-absorbing pads on the wall. I’ve got my Roland keyboard next to my mixing desk and my three guitars hung up on the wall for easy access, and of course a nice floor couch to lay on and stare at the ceiling to get the ideas flowing. It has honestly been a dream come true. After spending the last 10 years sitting on my bed recording under a blanket with my microphone, this feels like heaven.
Give us a way you can find your music.
My music can be found wherever you listen to your music, but here’s a link to my Linktree with links to a bunch of streaming platforms — specifically Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube. I also post updates about my music on socials like Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, which can also all be found on my Linktree.
Are you working on a music project now?
Yes, more than just one! It’s a goal of mine this year to release at least one single every month, so I’m currently working on a new single to be released at the end of February. Beyond that, I’ve been having a ton of fun exploring new styles and am working on making my first EP to release later this year!
What are the names of venues you perform at?
When I was in Toronto, I frequented an open mic at a bar called Handle Bar, and I also performed a gig there with some of my friends. I performed at a couple other venues in the city, including The Supermarket, Reid’s Distillery, C’est What, and The Tranzac Club. However, since moving out of the city, I’ve been performing at local bars and restaurants in the GTA, some of which include The Cellar in Elora, Block Three Brewing Company in St. Jacobs, as well as Queens Bush Pub in Hanover, where I have my next gig this Valentine’s Day!
What are your goals or plans for the future?
Well, my goals for this year are, as previously mentioned, to release at least a song a month, as well as release my first EP later this year. Beyond that, I plan to film and release a couple music videos this year, and I’m planning to put on an EP release show sometime near the end of 2026.I am also hopeful that I will be able to book a lot more gigs this year around the GTA, and I’m toying with the idea of finding a band, as I think it would make booking festival gigs much easier. My main goal is ultimately to find enough people who relate to my music that I can go on a tour in the next few years and make music my main income.
Is there anything else you would like to say before we go?
Thank you again so much for inviting me to do this interview! If anyone reading this is looking for ways to support me, please go follow me on my socials to stay updated on future releases — LOTS MORE MUSIC COMING SOON!
Also, go check out my music video for my song “Ended Here”. I can’t wait to share what I’ve been working on!
