Daisy Casemore Interview

We, at Harbinger Magazine, are going to the United Kingdom to interview Daisy Casemore I have watched her on stage delivering her performance and the audience loves her. The way she talks to her people in between songs you can see she loves them too. She is backed up by a great group of musicians. So, let’s get to know her. Daisy – what a classic name, a great stage name! Thank you for giving us this interview.

Thank you for having me, Dave Bixby, you are my hero.

Where were you born and where do you live today?

I was born in London and I live here today. I recently moved back to the big smoke after 3 years living in Scotland and 1 year living in Washington DC.

When did you start performing in front of people?

There’s an old video of me singing when I’m about 4 (“What is this? Could it be? Falling from the sky above, finally it’s snowing”) and simultaneously bursting into a dance routine. I struggle to remember anything about my childhood, so I rely on this video as concrete reassurance that my love of performing has been longstanding.

Introduce us to your group members and how you met each other.

I play solo these days, but shoutout to my longtime collaborators and best friends Ronan Lenane, Oisin Rice, Roan Clawson and James Smith. The band from my headline show you speak of consisted of most of this squad and also Linus Beef, James Vitch and Sam Jolley.

Tell us about your experience recording your songs.

I don’t enjoy recording in a studio and prefer to do it alone or with my friends at home. It allows for a slower and less pressurised process. By the time I bring it in for recording and mixing I always think it’s finished, but it is often the case that a lot changes when other chefs get involved the kitchen.

How can we find you and your music?

My website! It has lots of demos / live performance videos on it https://daisycasemore.com/
Some highlights include Real Life (live session): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRWi2qB5Id4 and a full band headline show in Edinburgh https://youtu.be/8m1B_VyPG1U
I’m on bandcamp tooooo. Any new stuff I release will drop on there first.

How and when did you discover Ode To Quetzalcoatl and what songs resonated with you?

I was in a taxi in April 2023 when I first heard ‘Morning Sun’, about to get the worst food poisoning of my life. The song stopped me breathing. Not on account of the food poisoning, but because of how hard the lyrics and music struck me. I have only ever had that same gut reaction to ‘The Caves of Altamira’ by Steely Dan and ‘Surfs up’ by The Beach Boys. So, I knew something very special was in the song. “We are so young at heart, and living is an art to be good at” makes me want to melt every time I hear it.
Anyway, I listened through to the whole album once I’d left my daze of sickness and was fascinated by Dave’s story. He read like a mythical figure. I’ve been emotionally glued to the album ever since.

In closing, is there anything you would like to convey to our readers?

I would love to talk to you about our shared love of Mr. Bixby and I hope to see many of your London readers at St. Giles’ this September. Yay!
